A sea day spent in sight of the coast, lots of humpback whales to spot today. All along the coast our route kept up close to the edge of the continental shelf which encourages feeding opportunities for sealife.
Tonight the ship organised for the lights to be turned off for a while on the Lido Deck so we could enjoy a chance to enjoy the “dark skies” for some star gazing. Surprisingly the deck was packed, last time we tried this there were no more than 20 attendees, admittedly the temperature was only about 5 degrees not 25 as here. The Deputy Captain pointed out as much as possible despite it being rather more cloudy than clear. We are also rather far north to see the Southern Cross, it being down in the haze above the sea, position and conditions are never right and the viewing opportunities never spontaneous enough.
