Sunday and Monday 14th, and 15th January 2018
Two more days at sea on our way to New York. Weather remains pretty poor, not too rough, but staying windy and getting progressively cooler, certainly not the sort of weather to sit out on deck. Plenty of activities on offer and even though we don’t take too much part in these the time seems to disappear without much effort.
In the Royal Court Theatre on Sunday “The 4 Tunes” on for their second show, four of them this time, now all fully fit. This a new show with more of “pop” music emphasis.
On Monday our first chance to see the Cunard Singers and Dancers, with a world premiere of their new musical “The Outsider”. Bit of a playette (with songs) of “love, life and lavender” in a French setting, sorry to say all a bit disjointed and needs a fair bit of refinement and should improve with practice.
Looking forward to tomorrows sail-in to New York. Not actually going to get up for the sail-in as it’s going to be rather early, 02.45 the pilot on board, 04.00 Verrazano Narrows Bridge, 04.30 Statue of Liberty, 05.00 Manhattan and berthing at 06.00. 300 passengers are disembarking in New York, I doubt they have been too impressed with their transatlantic crossing with the weather as it has been, though January in the Atlantic is hardly likely to be tropical.
We are promised a berth in Manhattan, Pier 88, close enough to get easy access to downtown New York. However weather forecast is for temperatures struggling to get above freezing and the possibilities of snow flurries. We have planned a couple of options for things to do in New York which are new to us, which we do is yet to be decided, one we had hoped to do looks like it’s off at present due to ice in the waterways! Think we might also give a miss to the option for open-topped bus tours! The Cunard tours on offer don’t seem to be too attractive to us this time around, so independent travel seems a good choice.
