Day 11 - Limassol, Cyprus

Thursday, 4th April 2019

The Port of Limassol is one of the busiest ports in the Mediterranean transit trade and the largest port in Cyprus.  It has also become one of the most important tourism trade, and service-providing centres in the area.  Limassol is renowned for its extensive cultural traditions, and is home to the Cyprus University of Technology.  Limassol’s historical centre is located around its medieval Limassol Castle and the Old Port.  To the west of the city is the Akrotiri Area of the British Overseas Territory of Akrotiri and Dhekelia.

The overnight passage took us along the coastlines of Israel and Lebanon at the distance of between 100 and 150 miles on our way to Cyprus.

This morning berthed in Limassol.  No trip organised for today so a leisurely morning whilst the crowds cleared.  Then caught the shuttle bus into town.  Took a short walk around the town passed the castle and found a nice gelato shop where we brought our first compulsory gelato today its a pistachio and a cherry, continued on up through town passed the Mosque and the Orthodox Church.

Quick stop at a little supermarket for a few essential supplies.

Headed back towards the shuttle bus stop along the seafront promenade, with a small detour back to the gelato shop!

Little Chapel in amongst the Port Facilities

Back on board the weather clouding up, certainly had the best of the day during the sunny morning.

The evenings entertainment in the theatre “Apassionata” with the Cunard singers and dancers.
