Day 14 - Civitavecchia, Italy

Sunday, 7th April 2019

Civitavecchia is a coastal town 80km northwest of Rome, in the region of Lazio Italy. A sea port on the Tyrrhenian Sea built in the 2nd century, the Port of Civitavecchia still retains some of its original features, like the Roman Harbour, constructed by the Emperor Trajan. The port area also includes the 16th-century Michelangelo Fort commissioned by Pope Julius II completed in 1535. Nearby, the National Archaeological Museum displays bronze and ceramic artefacts.

Last night traversed the Tyrrhenian Sea.  Overnight showers but all cleared up by the time we arrived.

Today berthed in Civitavecchia, lots of passengers off to Rome today, should be busy there as it’s the Rome Marathon today.

Our choice is to just go into Civitavecchia, so, it’s onto the shuttle bus, that is after the crowds and queues have cleared.  New route for the bus today, two stops, first at the Michelangelo Fort and the second at Largo Della Pace, in the town centre(?).  Tried the second, big mistake, not near anything useful.  So walked back to our usual part of town, gelato from our usual stop and enjoyed a stroll wander along the promenade to watch the Sunday morning strollers.

Back on board ship took advantage of the quiet ship and went to Formal Afternoon Tea in the Queen’s Room.  Proper waiter service, all the waiters in their white uniforms and white gloves. They serve the same food as the buffet afternoon tea but it’s all served rather than having to get up and get your own.

Made it to the music quiz today, joined another couple so better result but still no prize.

After dinner also got to the geography quiz, another close run thing.
