Day 13 - Villefranche, France

Thursday 4th October 2018

This charming little fishing village remains remarkably unspoiled considering its proximity to the famous names of the Riviera. There is a colourful waterfront area and the more energetic can explore the citadel and the medieval town. Further afield you’ll find the dazzling Monaco and Monte Carlo, Riviera towns of Nice and Cannes and much, much more.

Tender boats in operation today. No trip planned for us. So leisurely start followed by morning trivia, good result but not quite good enough.

Then, after coffee, time for cryptic corner. This time a win, must be getting good at these dingbats.

By now the tender queues have cleared, time for us to go ashore.

Nice little ride on the tender to the town. Once ashore climbed up through the old town, all steps and steep slopes.

Every street full of very tall buildings on very narrow streets (no cars), all painted in pastel colours, bright sun and views though to the blue sea.  We know an artist who paints this sort of town scenes in these colours, in fact she probably has!

It’s so steep round here even some of the cross-streets are mainly tunnel.

Back along the promenade and then a walk out by the citadel.

James Bond must be in town?

Then a return to the tender to go back to the ship for a cup of tea and some time in the sun.

Dinner in the main dining room again, just us this time.

Then to retire for the night, early alarm again tomorrow.
