Day 17 - Corfu, Greece

Monday 8th October 2018

Corfu has something for everyone. The old quarter of the town is redolent of Venice with its tall houses and narrow alleys, while the British influence is evident in the bandstand and the cricket square. You can visit the Mon Repos Palace, where Prince Philip was born, take a boat trip to see the secluded coves and beaches, or head inland to see the beauty of the countryside.

This morning docked in Corfu, quite close to Corfu Town.  Town and island  known as Keryke by the Greeks.

Last night lots of lighting at sea, didn’t hear the thunder nor see any rain, but I expect it was there.

Weather this morning started really nice again.  After breakfast it clouded up a bit and there was some distant thunder.

To allow weather to clear delayed going ashore, so went to morning trivia. Played with another different group, still no win, same team got  the win. Professionals?

Some rain arrived, so delayed going ashore a bit longer, skies brightening, shouldn’t be too long.

Sun coming out, so off to the cruise terminal to get the shuttle to town.

Drop off in town, not really very far!. Walked out to the headland along the seafront to the old fort.

Continued up through a nice park area to the main town. Lots of shops restaurants etc. all rather the same as any city in the world.  Also some older narrow streets, more the real thing.

Completed the circle over the headland past the new fort and so back to the seafront.

Back on the seafront it looked shorter to walk back to the ship rather than the shuttle bus pickup, neither very far.

Steady walk back to the ship.

Back in time for tea and some sun.

A local fishing boat

Sailaway then dinner in the main restaurant followed by a trip to the theatre for the comedian, Mike Doyle, comedians are not really to our liking but he put on a good show, not too many jokes but told as lot of tall tales and had excellent interaction with audience.

He also sang very well, particularly a delightful lullaby sung in Welsh.

Joined our dinner companions in the pub for the movie trivia, a good effort but no stamp.

And so to bed.
