Day 16 - at Sea

8th October 2018

Heading south overnight, this morning passing quite close to Stromboli.   The most active volcano in Europe, today no exception, the volcano being a little active this morning. Clear views of the cone complete with volcanic ash plume. Seems incredible that there are quite a few people living on the inland on a few tiny bits of roughly level land.  Not sure what there is for them to do here, but I guess they must want to live here!

Later we passed through the Messina strait, a very narrow, minimum only about 3 mile wide strait, between Sicily and mainland Italy.  Strong currents, whirlpools etc. but it does allow a shortcut rather then circumnavigating Sicily.

Guess which giant came to visit our balcony during the day?  Just called in for a rest?  (The balcony rail is about four and a half inches wide!!)

Plenty of time to enjoy the relaxation of a sea day.

Followed the coast round the toe of Italy into the Ionian sea on our way to Corfu.

Weather excellent again today, only very few scattered clouds and lots of sun and light winds.

Dinner in the buffet tonight, couldn't quite face getting dressed up tonight and we do enjoy the buffet.
